WHAT IS ADULT FOSTER CARE?

More support.
Still your life.

Home is more than a place. It’s your routines, your relationships, and the little things that make a day your own.

Through adult foster care, a person who needs help with everyday activities lives with a qualified caregiver in a private home. Nursing oversight and care management support that care.

Worcester AFC helps you explore that possibility with a personal conversation about your needs and the next steps.

Is adult foster care provided in a facility?

AFC is provided in a private home where the member and a qualified caregiver live together. It is different from a nursing facility or a daytime care program.

Who may qualify for the AFC program?

The Massachusetts program generally serves eligible MassHealth members age 16 and older who need help or cueing and supervision with at least one daily living activity. Other clinical, coverage, and living-arrangement requirements apply.

Can a family member be the caregiver?

A qualified family member may be able to provide AFC care. Spouses and legal guardians are excluded under MassHealth’s published guidance. Ask the team about your circumstances and the applicable caregiver requirements.
