What is Adult Foster Care?
AFC supports an eligible person who lives with a qualified caregiver in a private home. The caregiver helps with daily personal-care activities, supported by nursing oversight and care management.
Is this a residential facility?
AFC takes place in a shared private home. It is different from a nursing facility or adult day program.
Can a family member be the caregiver?
A qualified family member may be able to provide care. The member and caregiver must live together, and program requirements apply. A spouse or legal guardian cannot be the paid AFC caregiver.
Does MassHealth cover the program?
AFC is a MassHealth program for eligible members who meet its requirements. Coverage, clinical eligibility and enrollment must be reviewed; they cannot be guaranteed through this website.
